Create Reports Definition File Access: Optional Parameters

Use this page to restrict the values available to users for any additional system or user parameters that are needed to run this report definition file. For example, restricting the number of copies that can be printed (system) or displaying data based on specific values (user).

For example, say you wanted to run a restricted Sales report for the Northeast sales region, districts one through four. In the Optional Parameters page, you could set the user parameter SALES_DIST with the low value of 1 and the high value of 4, restricting this report to these four sales districts. To view a district's sales information, when users run this report they choose a sales district from a list of values on the runtime parameter form. If users try to view sales information from a district outside of this range, then the report fails to run.

Field Descriptions

Optional Parameters

Field	Description
Name	Enter the name of a system or user parameter to restrict the values available to users (for example, SALES_REGION or COPIES). Notes: For user parameters, the parameter must exist and must match a parameter that defined in the report at design time. The parameter name is not case sensitive.
Display Name	Enter the display name of the system or user parameter. This name is used to identify the parameter on the runtime parameter form.
LOV	Enter the name of a previously defined list of values (LOV), or click the List icon to pick a name from a list. Note: The list of values definition must already exist. To create one, click Locally Built Providers (on Provider tab of Portal Navigator) and then click Create New… List of Values.
Low Value	For a range a values, enter the lowest value.
High Value	For a range a values, enter the highest value.
More Parameters	Click to set up more parameters.

Notes

Any user parameters you define here must already have been created within the report definition file at design time. If you include user parameters that were not created at design time, the Reports Engine ignores them. (The report will still run.)
If you created a parameter form in Reports Builder that includes parameters that users are required to provide, you must include these parameters on this page. The parameter form you created within Reports Builder is not used for reports secured through Oracle Portal.
Any LOV you specify on this page must be one you have defined within Oracle Portal. This is not the same as the LOV you created for the report in Reports Builder. When an LOV created in Reports Builder is used for validation, Oracle Portal has a subset of the values allowed within the report itself. If it does not and an unsupported value is selected, a parameter validation error occurs at runtime, and the report will not run.
If you do not specify values in the LOV Name or Low Value and High Value fields, then the values of the optional parameter are not restricted. However, you can specify the parameters and values that are available to users from the Oracle Reports Parameter Form, a runtime parameter form that is available only to Oracle Reports system administrators. To set the default values and specify the parameters that are displayed to users in the runtime parameter form, click Personalize on the Develop tab that displays after you finish the wizard.
